20th Edition of the City of Alaior Base Basketball Tournament

A tournament with history

The tradition of basketball in Menorca is being established with the 20th Edition of Torneig de Bàsquet Base Ciutat d'Alaior . A sporting event that combines passion, tradition and youth in the heart of Menorca.

This tournament, which is held during the Easter school holidays, has as its main objective to promote grassroots sports among the cadet and children's categories, a goal that has been successfully achieved in previous editions. The city of Alaior is not a place of competition, but rather it becomes a basketball party that brings together more than 1,200 people including players, coaches, and referees.
 
In the 2019 edition, 84 teams participated, of which 66 were from outside Menorca, with a total amount of 1,260 participants. From the first edition until now, 597 teams have participated, 400 of these coming from outside the island, bringing together a total of almost 9,000 male and female players.
 
Previous editions witnessed company, sporting intensity and exemplary coexistence between all participating teams. Furthermore, beyond rivalry, this tournament has established itself as a meeting that promotes local support, with more than one hundred local companies that back up this basketball festival. With five venues distributed throughout Menorca and a wide representation of different regions, the next edition promises to be, once again, a milestone in youth basketball and a symbol of unity and passion for sport.

Where and when?

The tournament takes place in Alaior, a Menorcan municipality, and will bring together teams from the entire iberian peninsula and the Balearic Islands. The established dates for the meetings will be from March 27th to March 30th 2024, coinciding with the Easter school holidays.

Sports facilities

Menorca has various facilities prepared for this event:

• Alaior municipal sports pavilion (with 2 covered courts).
• I.E.S. Josep Miquel Guardia pavilion.
• Dr. Comas school pavilion.
• La Salle Alaior pavilion.
• Padre Petrus pavilion located in Mahon.
• Es Mercadal sports centre.
• Fornells sports centre.

These venues ensure the best experience for players and spectators.

Participant Services

The organization has strived to offer a complete package for players:

• Boat transfer from Barcelona to Menorca and vice versa.
• Accommodation in hotels and aparthotels including full board.
• Coach transportation for different trips.
• Comprehensive management of the competition: refereeing, trophies, and others.

Initial participant estimate

This tournament is aimed at under-14 and under-16, in male and female modalities.
Each category will be organized into two groups of 8 teams, with the option of enrolling in group A (1st year basic level) or B (2nd year medium-high level).

Competition

The competition will take place according to the calendar, in a league divided into groups. The teams in each group will play all against all, with pairings after the first phase according to classification in order to define the final classification.
The matches will be one match for the teams, except for the first two in each group.
Each team is scheduled to play 5 games, except for the finalists, who will play 6.
All matches will take place indoors on parquet flooring.
Category A teams will play all matches on the main court of the sports centres; category B teams will play on the adjacent and transversal courts.

Travel itinerary

Tuesday, March 26, 2024

Departure (at night) by boat from Barcelona port (Barcelona-Menorca). Upon arrival, first thing in the morning, transfer by bus to the hotel.

March 27, 28, 28 and 30, 2024

Development of the tournament in the aforementioned facilities.
Players and coaches will be transported to the corresponding pavilion by bus (approximate journey time of 20 minutes).

Saturday, March 30, 2024

Departure from Menorca-Barcelona at night, Mallorca in the evening, according to usual schedules.

Price and registration

Note: The organization has reserved a limited number of places on the boat, in armchair or cabin accommodation. These places will be distributed in order of confirmation of the registration of the participating clubs. It is important to keep in mind that the cabins are for 4 people and will be distributed according to the internal order of the tournament. It may be the case to share the cabin with another group if they are not multiples of 4 people.

• Before January 15th, 2024:

  • Confirmation of your participation by contacting the number 657 966 869 (Miquel Sintes) or by email to torneigbase@cbjovent.com.

• Before February 1st, 2024:

  • Estimation of participants and companions, official photo of the team participating in the tournament and completion of the registration in the following link: Registration
    Deposit of 25% of the budget to be able to guarantee reservations, both for the hotel and the boat. Receipt must be sent by email to torneigbase@cbjovent.com.

• Before March 1, 2024:

  • Confirmation of the number of players, coaches and companions.
  • Deposit of the remaining 75% of the budget.
